In my backyard pond, i found 2 dead squirrels and 1 dead chipmunk! The pond is small, about 5x5 and 2 feet tall. One of the squirrels had big white lumps all over him! The other squirrel had a few bumps, but not even close to as many as the other one. The chipmunk didn't even have any on him! but what i was wondering, was why were the squirrels and chipmunk in there anyway, and why did the one have lumps all over him? There was a tree above it, so they may have fallen from there, but why was there suddenly 3 dead animals in my pond?! Animal experts out there, please tell me!Dead squirrels with white bumps?
I have no clue why the chipmunk was in there.
From what you describe, its possible that the squirrels had Squirrel Fibroma Virus or Squirrel Pox. I guess it could kill them (and then they just fall into the water) or could render them unable to see depending on the location of the fibromas (tumors) then they fell in. Check out the site and compare the pictures!Dead squirrels with white bumps?
I would definetly get somebody to check that out! They could be carring harmful even deadly viruses...get someone on that immediatly!

What's with white tailed squirrels?
Here in northern Illinois we have had a number of sighting of red squirrels with white tails. I think its because of partial albinism, but I was curious what caused it and why only the tails of several squirrels over a 200 mile radius are only now being seen this year. What's with white tailed squirrels?
The most widespread member of its genus in North America, the White-tailed Antelope Squirrel is most active in midmorning and late afternoon, with a lull during the heat of the day. During winter, it is active throughout midday, spending much time basking in the sun. It hibernates in northern parts of its range, but may or may not hibernate in more southerly areas. This species, like other antelope squirrels, runs fast, with its tail held over its back, and exposing its white underparts. Usually foraging on the ground, but sometimes in yuccas or cacti, it feeds on green vegetation, seeds, insects, and vertebrate flesh, in descending order of importance. Green vegetation, especially evening primrose and storksbill, makes up the largest part of this animal鈥檚 diet from December to May; it eats seeds, particularly those of ephedra, yucca, and opuntia, all year, but in smallest quantities in March and April. Grasshoppers contribute to the diet in spring and summer, beetles in autumn, and vertebrates all year, probably as carrion. The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel usually lives in burrows, but may also take up residence in rock crevices or abandoned burrows of other animals, often kangaroo rats. Burrows are about 18 inches (450 mm) deep, their entrances under shrubs or in the open. Inside are food caches and, near the center of the system, a nest measuring about 5 to 8 inches (130 to 200 mm) in diameter. It uses available material to build a nest, which may incorporate grasses, fur, and bark. Many burrows throughout the home range allow refuge from danger and from heat. Escape burrows are shorter than home burrows, with no nest or food caches. The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel forms dominance hierarchies, which are maintained by visual and tactical cues. Young animals may lie on the ground and face off with one another, and then proceed to box or wrestle until dominance is established. This sparring is accompanied by growls, chattering, and chirps. Greetings are by oral or nasal touching. This species mates between February and June. The mating season peaks in February and March in southern Nevada, though in California it apparently takes place entirely within a two-week period. This desert creature has several adaptations to survive in extreme heat. When exposed to critical temperatures, it will enter a burrow and crawl on the floor with its sparsely furred belly in contact with the ground, which quickly draws out excess heat. While out of the burrow, this species uses available shade or shades itself with its tail, and climbs into bushes where the airflow is greater.

Red Squirrels are redder in the summer, and in Britain they develop a white tail in summer. The coat of the red squirrel varies in colour with time of year and location. There are several different coat colour morphs ranging from black to red. Red coats are most common in Great Britain; in other parts of Europe and Asia the different coat colours co-exist within populations, much like hair colour in humans. The underside of the squirrel is always white-cream in colour. Red squirrels shed their coats twice a year, switching from a thinner summer coat to a thicker, darker winter coat with noticeably larger ear-tufts (a prominent distinguishing feature of this species) between August and November. A lighter, redder overall coat colour, along with the larger ear-tufts, helps to distinguish the European red squirrel from either of the Eastern Grey Squirrel or the American Red Squirrel.

What can I do to keep the fox squirrels around my house? We have two. One is grey, black and has a white nose.?
We have a lot of oak trees and I put out corn blocks and bird seed. I also put out mixed nuts in the shell. Would they eat popcorn too? What can I do to keep the fox squirrels around my house? We have two. One is grey, black and has a white nose.?

Just keep putting food out and they will stay.
We wouldn't need animal prisons (Zoos) if they would just put food out the animals would stay voluntarily, like cats outside the back entrance of a Sushi Bar.

Are white squirrels rare?
I have a ton of white squirrels in our backyard i use to not see any at all but they are tons now. It use to be like oh my god look a white squirrel but its just normal now. Its nothing new to me or my family but are they rare? I live in ohio by the way.Are white squirrels rare?
thats pretty cool actually. I have never seen an all white one. Now we have had some that were brown or gray that their tails went from brown at the base and faded to white. Also have some black squirrels, but never seen a white one. Up in Wisconsin there is about 500 white whitetail deer. They are naturally bred that way. I dominant gene takes over for albinism. Are white squirrels rare?
There is, in fact, one tree squirrel for which a white coat seems to be a characteristic of the entire species. Its an Oriental Tree Squirrel with the scientific name Callosciurus finlaysoni (Callosciurus translates as ';beautiful squirrel';) found in Thailand and other parts of South East Asia. So if you sighted a white squirrel here in North America outside of captivity, its almost certainly a color variant of one of our many native species of the genus Sciurus; in my neighborhood, that would be the Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis). Most of what follows will be in reference to that species but white coated Fox Squirrels and Red Squirrels have been sighted, as well.
The previous answers already touch on the fact that you've very likely got a local population of albino Grey Squirrels. What's interesting is that there are places in the eastern US where there are local populations of melanistic (black) Grey Squirrels that have been established for many decades. Genetics is cool!
yes white squirrels are very rare. There breed is not though, they are probably just the common squirrel but albino. Every species has an albino race. You probably just got lucky and had to albino squirrels that cary the albino gene and they had little baby squirrels.
Yes, very!!! At least in my part of the country!!!
I didn't know that there were lots of them anywhere, though!!! Good deal!!!
Thanks for sharing that!!! Enjoy them!!!
Aww a little albino family! cute!
yes albinos (white coat/skin) of any species are rare, if you're seeing more than one then the chances are they are all related and breeding so passing on the gene for albinism.
I never saw a white one in my life.

Black and white animal? Looks like a large squirrel or weasel...?
This morning on my way to school, an animal ran out of the woods in front of my car, at first I thought it was a squirrel but as I got closer, I realized it was much larger. It really looked like a giant black and white squirrel.
I live in the Florida Panhandle and i did some research, and it looks like a mongoose or weasel, but I didn't see any of those in colors other than brown. It was just really odd.
It wasn't a fox, cause it looked nothing like a dog or cat.
It definitely was not a skunk or badger (sp?).
literally just looked like a huge squirrel.
I don't know why I'm so curious but I am.
If anyone could guess what it was that would be nice.
Thanks!Black and white animal? Looks like a large squirrel or weasel...?
-- Ermine/stoat: this is a weasel-like animal that changes colour in the fall. In the warmer months it has a dark coat but in the winter it turns white with black tips to blend in with snow. You said it had mixed black and white fur, so if it was an animal undergoing a fall colour change it might have been partway through. They live all over the US but I don't know if the Florida ones change colour at all (since you generally don't even get snow).
-- Wolverine: looks more like a small bear than a giant squirrel. They have dark fur with light fringes and bands that blend at the edges.
-- Porcupine: it's a large rodent, so it's related to squirrels. The quills are dark at the base but lighter on the ends, and it has a soft furry dark undercoat. A small porcupine might look like an absurdly large and clumsy squirrel.
The last link below has thumbnail pictures of most of the mammals in Florida, so you could scroll down until you see something that looks familiar.Black and white animal? Looks like a large squirrel or weasel...?
You can get opossums in Florida. Could it have been one of those?

Why aren't white squirrels harvested for their fur?
In many places, white, or albino squirrels are protected. Check out Olney, IL, for example. http://www.ci.olney.il.us/Visitors/White鈥?/a>
Several towns have decent populations, including towns in Missouri and Kentucky. However, the population is usually under 200, so that, too, restricts harvesting from wild populations. Why aren't white squirrels harvested for their fur?
First off, squirrel hides aren't particularly valuable, whatever color they are. Squirrels aren't killed for their fur, but for food. White squirrels are only common in very localized areas, usually in towns where hunting and trapping would be illegal. Why aren't white squirrels harvested for their fur?
They are harvested.... I just know that their fur is used to make shaving brushes.
they are not harvested specifically for fur, but squirrel hair is used for fine paint brushes

It is true, there is a population of albino Eastern grey squirrels in Canada not far from where I grew up, also here in Canada the black variety is much more common than the regular grey colour of the same species.

Are white squirrels rare in the UK?
Just wondering if they are rare as we have about 3 white squirrels in our garden along with 3 brown squirrels. Are white squirrels rare in the UK?
The white squirrel is an albino grey squirrel, they seem to be becoming more common. We do not have any red squirrels in Kent, just an abundance of greys.
The odds against a pure white squirrel being born are 1 in 100,000. Albinism is due to gene mutations that affect the production of pigmentation. True albino animals lack melanin and are white with no markings and with unpigmented pink eyes. In some species there is also a form known as blue-eyed (or partial) albinism. Squirrels, white or otherwise, do not make good pets and it is illegal under the terms of the Wildlife and Countryside Act to take any animal from the wild without meaning to return it once fit. White squirrels in the UK, although rare, often live in small albino colonies, so if you see one, the chances are there are others nearby. As white squirrels are true albinos, they do not see or hear as well as other squirrels. This makes them easier for predators, to catch and kill. Dogs, cats, foxes and birds of prey are all likely to harm white squirrels. A baby squirrel weighs approximately one ounce at birth, and is about one inch long. They do not have hair or teeth, and are virtually blind for the first six to eight weeks. It is possible to find melanistic (black) squirrels in the UK as well, but these along with the albino variety are rare. In Illinois, USA there is a State Law which says it is unlawful for any person to take white squirrels in the state at any time. Hope this helps! Are white squirrels rare in the UK?
They are albinos.You.ve got a 50/50 split thats unusual as albino's are rare.
wow, there r actually white squirrels..thts cool!
im from scotland and iv never seen one.
I've only ever seen one white squirrel which I assumed was an albino. I've also seen a black squirrel.
maybe yes...i am in ENGLAND too
They are rare because they are usually easy pickins for predators.
Very rare; I see lots of grey squirrels but I've never seen an albino. They are probably related, perhaps from the same litter. The species is grey squirrel, even though they often brownish, so you have white grey squirrels in your garden.
Unfortunately, although they are beautiful creatures, they have destroyed the habitat of the native red squirrel in most of the country. Red squirrels are now rare outside of Scotland and north west England.
They certainly should be rare, taking into account the numbers I have shot and eaten over the last few years. I'm also in Kent. Would you like me to come round and eradicate your white squirrels for you? Tastes like chicken.
i have never heard of such a thing, are you in England?
yes, that is cool, and rare ! even brown squirrel are not as common as the common grey. we only have grey in the northwest of Englandcovergirl

we had that the other night
yum
*blink blink*Red or white wine, with squirrel meat?
if you are seriously eating squirrel, then the only appropriate wine is Richard's Wild Irish Rose
it is the perfect accompaniment to possum and raccoon too
then i'd recommend some Boone's Farm as an after-dinner wineRed or white wine, with squirrel meat?
Squirrel meat = red meat
red meat = red wine
answer = red wine
Depends on if you shot the squirrel with a pellet gun or accidentally caught it in a rat trap.
be on the safe side pick a good chardonay it goes with red or white meat, not sweet, not dry. how can you go wrong its squirret meat. EEEEDOGGIES
i would go with white, because i personally think squirrel meat is a little bit dry and i would like to sweeten it up!
Any Redneck beer will do (use the squirrel gun barrel for a straw).
definitely red
Beaujolais for me, thank you.
RED! I'd go with either a Merlot or a nice Shiraz
something with a screw on cap.

I saw a black squirrel with a white nose in Jersey, Georgia near covington GA and i got a pic!!!!?
This is not that unusual. It was most likely a fox squirrel. These are common in the south. They are great with a light gravy or dumplings.I saw a black squirrel with a white nose in Jersey, Georgia near covington GA and i got a pic!!!!?

Now, can someone tell me why it is doing that weird army crawl? I have NEVER seen a squirrel do that. What does that behavior signify? ThanksI was just watching a squirrel delay the baseball game between the Indians and the White Sox.?
That was really funny. Great to watch.
I think he was waiting for a fly ball.
Seriously. His lay-down behavior is to absorb heat off the ground. By spreading out and laying flat on the ';dirt'; portion of the field, he absorbs the heat that that part of the field generates as a result of being hit by sunlight.
Smart, and fearless little guy isn't he? Great and wonderful animals Squirrels are. They add beauty, charm, and laughter to our lives.

I have red squirrel poo on my white car. I've washed it but it doesn't come off; any ideas?
The acid from the rude squirrel discolored the surface. Try a little polishing compound.I have red squirrel poo on my white car. I've washed it but it doesn't come off; any ideas?
#1 kill offending squirrel ...#2 wax the spot using meguires cleaner wax...#3 fry and eat squirrel...#4 relax and enjoy shinning car and full belly...I have red squirrel poo on my white car. I've washed it but it doesn't come off; any ideas?
Try getting a clay bar. That will take a lot of stuff on your car off, to include squirrel poo. Just make sure that you have either some clay lube, or lots of suds (clay the car while washing) to ensure you don't scuff the paint. Next, put some sealer, and wax on the car, and bingo.
You can try some bleach (diluted) in the wash water.
A short one-sided talk about the car with Extreme prejudice,
Then rewash, wax and buff.
ELBOW grease...if you can't muster any..ask your girlfriend.

Are there white squirrels in Georgia?
We have captured several pictures of either a white or albino squirrel on our game cameras. Have never seen them before until recently. Are these real or is someone playing a prank? Are there white squirrels in Georgia?
You say that you have captured images, so the white squirrel must be real. Albinism (lack of pigmentation) affects many different species. So it's definitely possible that what you've seen is an albino squirrel. They *have* been spotted in Georgia before.
http://nosysnoop.wordpress.com/2007/07/0鈥?/a>Are there white squirrels in Georgia?
I doubt there are ';white'; squirrels. They'd be too easy for a predator to catch.
Albino is a good reason. Albinism is common in all animal species.
They're real. A lot of different animal species will occasionally produce an albino specimen.

Been seeing a Red Squirrel with a white tail??Anyone know why this is happening?
I've seen white squirrels before but not one like you have in your picture. There are several places specifically known for their albino squirrels. Check this website if you're interested.Been seeing a Red Squirrel with a white tail??Anyone know why this is happening?

I also saw a red squirrel, but with a while fluffy tail a bit like a rabbits. It was weird. I hav enot seen it since.
Been seeing a Red Squirrel with a white tail??Anyone know why this is happening?
Maybe it's because the red squirrel with the white tail keeps going by where you are looking.
I have seen black squirrels with a white tip on their tails -- I believe this has something to do with an albino gene.
Ya we have red squirrels here... but I think that the white tail comes from lack of pigment... just like people, you know some people are born with a stripe in their hair. Thats what I think it is.
Get off the drugs
I highly doubt that is genetically possible. Perhaps somethign happened to one squirrel and you are seeing the same one thinking it's multiples. Or it could not be a squirrel at all, maybe a chipmunk. They have similar markings.
either some jerk sprayed it with white spray paint , or it's mother was albino and it's dad wasn't.
r u sure its not a chipmunk.ive never seen a red squirrel.covergirl

Is there such a animal as a snow squirrel that has white fur instead of gray like the ones in the park?
There is a small town in Missouri called Marionville. It is known as the home of the white squirrels. They are not an albino squirrel, their eyes are not red. They have white fur. I know I use to live only 12 miles from there. Is there such a animal as a snow squirrel that has white fur instead of gray like the ones in the park?
Yes. They are rare in the wild for the same reason that all other albinos are rare (think visibility).
There are the albinos, which are grey squirrels with a mutation in melanocytes (pigment cells) that causes them to not be able to produce pigment in either the eyes or fur, which in squirrels makes their eyes red and fur white.
There is also an entire strain of squirrels, mostly on the eastern side of the US, that carries the gene that makes their fur white but their eyes remain black.
Neither are products of environmental adaptation (like the snow rabbit or the snow fox), but they are mutations at the cellular level passed on from squirrel to squirrel genetically. It's kind of amazing that they exist at all!Is there such a animal as a snow squirrel that has white fur instead of gray like the ones in the park?
Yes but they are very rare , I read that they were only 2 living in a park in new york or some place south.
Yes
There are albino squirrels...
they have red eyes, too

Not really a snow squirrel....the common Grey squirrel will produce totally white squirrels on occasion.Gray squirrels are bushy tailed with a mixture of brown, black, and white fur which when viewed from a distance blend together to look gray. Their belly fur is white or light gray. Some gray squirrels are black, a color phase that can be common in some locales. The totally white squirrel is almost an albino recessive gene that sometimes occurs. That's it. it isn't a different species at all.
Yes but it is a Albino squirrels

Google Olney, Illinois.....It is the Home of the White Squirrel. Only place in the US where they live and are not albinos.
yes
Gray squirrels sometimes produce babies that are white, spotted, darker than normal, or lighter than normal. All these are mutations. Albinos are solid white animals with pink eyes. They occur due to a complete absence of pigment. Leucistic animals are genetically white animals with blue eyes. There are also squirrels with regular dark eyes and either solid white or cream, or even spotted, bodies. Those squirrels are also mutations, and the colors are actually what color they are genetically. Albinos are the only animals white due to an absence of pigmentation.

Black and white squirrel.?
i heard that black squirrels are just a rare kind of gray squirrels and that i would find them with grays. then does this mean that you would find white(not albino) squirrels with red squirrels? i really need to know this! i will give best answers!!!!!Black and white squirrel.?
Black and White squirrels are actually skunks.Black and white squirrel.?
Yes, they are a variety of grey squirrel.
';Black squirrels are a melanistic subgroup of the eastern grey squirrel. They are common in Midwestern North America and, in some places, outnumber the grey squirrels by a ratio of about ten to one.';
They are not skunks but similar in appearance.
';The black squirrels of Kent are larger than typical grey squirrels,often nearing the size of the fox squirrel and easily mistaken for small skunks.';
Fox squirrels are either black or sometimes a white color. They live mainly in pines while the gray lives mainly in oaks, pecans, etc. They usually don't live and mingle with the grays.
I've herd of black squirrels but have never seen one but white squirrels I thank are in the gray family as well. Kenton TN had quite a few white ones running around years ago
Black and White squirrels are skunks
no you would not find white squirrels with red ones
I think you're getting confused with a skunk...
haha
a black and white squirrel is a skunk.
I think you saw a tiny Zebra.
Its a SKUNK man !

Kids growing potatoes - Pentland Javelin, a squirrel has broken the tops down, had white flowers now gone....?
Does this mean they are ready ? The stems are really tall about 4ft and I have had to secure to bamboo. They can't wait to eat what they have grown - when can they eat their crop? Also as they are growing in a large barrel like pot would we have to use new compost/soil if we plant 2nd crop ? When do they do this? And when will second crop be ready? They are growing tomatoes, courgettes, cauliflower, and sprouts too.Kids growing potatoes - Pentland Javelin, a squirrel has broken the tops down, had white flowers now gone....?
Although it's the right time,l am leaving my to grow a bit more until mid july. Not enough light if potato is 4ft tall, means you will not have many potatoes.
You can use the same compost if you add some chicken pellets or some growmore etc to restore nutrients. The 2nd crop will have more potaoes but need 4 weeks longer to grow so 16 weeks.Do a 3rd crop end of sept, but make sure you move the barrel to the sunniest spot and they can dig up on Xmas day for lunch (it does work)
Plant garlic on the shortest day and harvest on the longest day. There is time for sweetcorn plants to put in your garden.Put them in compost and the rascals can pick the corn in sept, boil and a bit of butter Mmm must be hot spotKids growing potatoes - Pentland Javelin, a squirrel has broken the tops down, had white flowers now gone....?
You can dig potatos almost any time, as soon as you have tubers. Dig down and see what is growing in there.
If you plant a second crop, just top off the barrel with more dirt.
I think you should be. Clowns are here and loppy. What are malts? Have you seen potatoes? Foul is now. Just is new. What are you? Is it new?
Yes you can dig them out now but they will be small, yes plant some more keep adding more soil as they grow.

Where could you find the only white breed of squirrel in the world?
There are several communities that have a colony of white squirrels including Marionville, Missouri, Olney, Illinois and more.
In reality, white animals are rarely a separate breed. They are simply a genetic mutation. Just like a white tiger is not a separate breed, the white squirrels are not either.Where could you find the only white breed of squirrel in the world?
an albino squirrel could be found anywhere there are squirrelsWhere could you find the only white breed of squirrel in the world?
Don't know,
But seen a white fox squirrel in Florida.
Wild in the north woods
There are several cities with color morphs of both gray and fox squirrels. Some are black and some are white. So there is not just one place. I think St Louis has some as do many other cities and towns in the US.
You specifically are not simply talking about an albino but are instead talking about a population of them. Thus you will have to go to a city or town as such squirrels in the country are subject to too much predation!
Cities and towns tend to protect them on the other hand as an additiy which encourages tourism.
You can find them in the wild occasionally but you seldom find an entire population.

Has anyone seen a grey squirrel with solid white ears?
No this is not a joke. I have many bird and actually enjoy the antics of the tree rats. I have fox squirrel and greys. Last several years some the greys have solid white ears and larger then most greys. Asked our local Ag. Agent and many wildlife buffs. I did online seaches also too with no answers. One know it all farmer thought they were wanna be albino squirrels.
We enjoy these white eared tree rats and feed them. Does anyone have any info about them?Has anyone seen a grey squirrel with solid white ears?
It is just a color variation. It would be considered to be a partial albino. There are solid white albino squirrels near Chicago.I get a lot of black ones, and black ones with brown tails and paws.A friend of mine saw an all-white one once, and years ago,we had a chocolate -brown one and a red one(and it was a grey squirrel,it was just red in color, and very large as well).Has anyone seen a grey squirrel with solid white ears?
Thanks for the points! I have at least ten squirrels who come to eat from my bird-feeders everyday. They are all different -looking,and have huge appetites!
i have been trying to find out about the white eared squirrels also, i live in Louisiana, and seem to have a whole community of them living in the trees in my yard. They are too cute!!!
nope
Thats cute. Bring out your digital camera and post it as your ';picture';

no
i have about 5 in the yard tree and we feed them peanuts and sometimes bread crumbs/pieces
My friends family from Tennessee eats them all the time...says taste taste like chicken!covergirl

Have you ever seen a white squirrel? Snow white; not grey?
Many times. There is a town near me that is full of them.
People have caught some and tried to re-locate them, but they die every time they try that, so now it is against the law to catch them.
The Police cars in that town have a picture of a white squirrel on the side.
People all over town feed them and many of them are quite gentle.
There are about 200 of them in this small town and there are only 4 communities in the US that have them, I think!

i have a pet albino squirrel so i see one every day
Yea.
I have heard of one area which has white ( not albino ) squirrels. If your home is in this area, then you should be seeing many of them.
Otherwise it is probably an albino , which is very rare. You are very lucky in any event!
What you saw was an albino squirrel. Albino animals are very rare and have a different color (usually white with reddish eyes) than normal animals. They also have a hard time surviving in the wild because they can't hide themselves well from predators. I actually saw an albino squirrel once in a park not far from my home.
I don't remember if they actually showed pictures of them on the local news, but I remember a news story about them.

First, you would have to find out if you can legally keep squirrels - of any color - as a pet in your state. You can check here: http://www.api4animals.org/b4a2_exotic_a鈥?/a>
If you find that pet squirrels are legal in your state, you would need to check with your county and municipality, because many individual counties and municipalities restrict the ownership of animals that are otherwise legal in the state.
Then you would need to find a USDA licensed breeder, because it is illegal in almost every state to capture wild animals and keep them as pets.
Unfortunately, I know of no USDA breeder of squirrels that raises white squirrels.I was wondering if I could have a white squirrel as a pet.?
It's okay with me, but you need to bear in mind that squirrels don't make very good pets, so your family probably won't enjoy your new companion as much as you do.
Flying squirrels make nice pets, but your average tree squirrel is a nasty little critter. Trust me; I've handled plenty in my work. Don't know where you could get a white one, but you can dye them. Seriously. There is a dye used by wild animal researchers so they can identify individuals in their natural habitat.
Most squirrels eat nuts, seeds, fruit, insects, green vegetable matter (leaves, stalks), hypogeous (underground) fungi, bird eggs, other rodents, and fig newtons.
Probably not, at least it's not a good idea. Squirrels haven't been bred to be domesticated like other animals.
I know people who have raised squirrels, but even the owners keep in mind that the animals aren't really pets and can be highly unpredictable and treat them as such.
Where would you find a white one? I've no idea, but there are some colonies of albino squirrels that are protected (if not by law, by people who just like them). There are some non-albino squirrels (they're more of a cream color) in a few regions in the US.
No. The only white squirrels available are wild. Most states protect species from those that capture, keep and sell them. Fact is now a days almost all wildlife is protected, except for the exotic non-native or pest species. Some cities also protect their wildlife, especially something like a white squirrel.

Leave the wild to the wild.
Albinos are very rare. Most white mammals are a white color phase.

I saw a white squirrel one time. I was sitting in the visiting area of the park at the mental institution where I used to live, I was just out there getting some fresh air, but they said I still had to keep my straightjacket on.
The doctors had just given me my daily medication, and they forgot to feed me afterward. Most of the medication I take has to be taken with food, they say it will produce a strange side effect, but I never believe them.
The white squirrel I saw was almost four feet high, it was smoking a pipe, and was wearing a Mets cap.
This squirrel told me I was going to win the Lottery, he said his name is Charly, but everyone calls him Chuck.
I also passed out and threw up that same day for some reason.
Yes, there was a family of them in my grandparents' backyard (Ohio).
yes, white squirrels are not that uncommon. There is a town somewhere that's full of them, but I can't remember where it is
I found it!!
If you want to ';Go Nuts!'; then Brevard, North Carolina is the place to do it. The City of Brevard, The Heart of Brevard, The Tourist Development Association and local merchants have all teamed up to celebrate the furry little critters that scurry through our downtown, parks and local college campus... the famous White Squirrels of Brevard. So we invite you to spend a few days with us and take a walking tour to see and possibly even photograph a White Squirrel for yourself.

Yes, I have seen some.We live near a zoo in WI. They have exotic wildlife. There is a white one that lives there on the sanctuary. Cute, huh? : )
never in my life
On the news recently an albino squirrel was sighted.
Of course! All the time! I run a white squirrel tree farm.
Yup, they are called albino, and there are occurrences of this in most mammals.
There are albino squireels that happen once in a very great while and a breed that is mostly white. You can look them up online.
No. Have you?
Not in the wild... I did see one at a zoo.
I have never heard of a white squirrel before, but if I saw one I would be afraid of it
many times
yes, we have them in South Georgia. They are called Fox Squirrels. They are all different colors. Some can be black or white or red or mixed. They are larger than regular squirrels. Very pretty too.
Check out Brevard, NC on the website. They have a white squirrel festival. They are very common in that area of Western North Carolina.
Yes...In Goodhue, MN
YES. it was creepy as hell. We called it the albino squirel and it hung around the courtyard of my highschool.
yea there are a lot of them in Georgia... that's how they raise them there... weird huh?
Yes - at Devil's lake in Central Wisconsin.
I haven't, but albino squirrels do exist, as they do in every mammal species. Pictures here:

If this is a serious ? then yes. There is an albino squirrel that lives in the tree next to my grandparents house. They feed them so they can keep the white one around.
yes, and while they are few and far between, they are not always albinos, there are several sightings as well as taxidermy mounts recorded in the last several years in upstate ny, quite unique critters at that.
Years ago, at my grandfathers.

How did great-white sharks and red-backed squirrel monkeys become extinct?
No need for any other information besides how they became extinct.
How can we prevent this from happening as sixth or first grade students,
and what are we doing to currently protect them? How did great-white sharks and red-backed squirrel monkeys become extinct?
Neither of those species is extinct. Not sure where you're getting your information from. Red-backed squirrel monkeys were on the endangered species list, mainly because of deforestation (also hunting and the pet trade contributed to declining numbers), but last year they were upgraded to vulnerable, meaning their wild numbers are improving. There is currently a population of these squirrel monkeys at the zoo I worked at, as well as many other zoos. How did great-white sharks and red-backed squirrel monkeys become extinct?
Um... They are endangered... not extinct... first of all!
Every one thinks that great white sharks are vicious
man eating animals (thanks to the movie jaws!)
so people try to kill sharks. Also
another thing is millions of sharks get finned each
year! Sharks also get caught in nets around beaches
and choke. This is very bad because if great white
sharks go extinct then the entire sea food chain collapses!
Currently we are doing nothing to help save sharks but
further killing them! You could start an organization that raises
awareness of this!
the red squirrels arnt yet extinct
but there has been things set up, to help protect the red squirrels by providing them with living environments
they are being killed by the american grey squirrels coming over here, the red ones are origionaly english
and the red ones dont fight, because they dont need to fight for their food, whearas the grey ones did so they fight with the red ones and kill them
so people did want to kill off a few grey squirrels but now theyve decided against that and decided to provide better living conditions for the red ones
Don't know much about the monkey, but Great Whites are not extinct. They are endangered. No laws protect them here in the USA. Only a handful of countries have protection laws. Australia and South Africa are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. I guess just write your congress representative is about the only thing you can do.
is this a serious question?
they are not extinct
and grey squirrels do not attack red squirrels either ..they are larger and may chase them but the thing that kills the red is a diseaese that is carried by the greys that is fatal to red squirrels when they catch it
abbie...you are talking complete nonsense

Albinism can occurs amongst regular, coloured animals. It may have just been a fat, albino squirrel. And yes, all squirrels are quite speedy.
Pictures:

There is a chance it may have been an escaped pet, because I'm sure there are no wild animals in that area (I don't live too far away) that look like giant, white squirrels. I throught of a chinchilla from your description. They come in many colours, including white, are large, and can run fast.

I dreamt of a white squirrel running around in a baby nursery, what does that mean?
Serious answers only, please.I dreamt of a white squirrel running around in a baby nursery, what does that mean?
Hi there
The squirrel in your dream I would suggest that you are involved in a loveless or pointless relationship or an unprofitable business project. Also that you probarly already realise this but you feel like your runninf aorund in circles and are not sure what to do. Alternatively, seeing a squirrel in your dream suggests that you are hoarding something. You are holding on to too much and need to learn to let go. Or it could mean that you need to reserve something. All types of rooms represent particular areas of yourself or a particular relationship. They often relate to hidden areas of the conscious mind and different aspects of your personality. As you said yours is a NurseryI dreamt of a white squirrel running around in a baby nursery, what does that mean?
White
White represents purity, perfection, peace, innocence, dignity, cleanliness, awareness, and new beginnings. You may be experiencing a reawakening or have a fresh outlook on life. However, in Eastern cultures, white is associated with death and mourning.
Squirrel
To see squirrels in your dream, signifies that you are involved in a loveless or pointless relationship or an unprofitable business project. Alternatively, seeing a squirrel in your dream suggests that you are hoarding something. You are holding on to too much and need to learn to let go. Or it could mean that you need to reserve something.
Crib
To see a crib in your dream, suggests that you are harvesting or ';babying'; a new idea, creation or project. Alternatively, it may refer to your nurturing, protective, and caring nature. A more literal interpretation of this symbol, suggests that you may be yearning for a baby or that you are expecting a baby.
To dream of a baby nursery indicates discovery of new elements to your personality.
And the squirrel symbolize our basic instincts and behaviors. Are you behaving or do you need to behave like the squirrel in your dream? What characteristics does that animal have?
Do you need to pick up the pace somewhere in you life? Are you trying to keep up? Things may be going too fast. Slow down.
Hope that helps, good dreams to you :)
White squirrel may symbolize some distraction, running around in a baby nursery may suggest that you are feeling burdened or stressed about things you can't control.
It may be about baby or may be about some responsiblities you are into currently.
